Health And Nutrition

COSEDA is one of the NGOs with capacity and focus on Maternal, Child Health, Immunization and management and prevention of acute malnutrition among under five and women with aim of reducing the morbidities and mortalities among these key populations. COSEDA strives to improve the health of vulnerable populations across developing countries in Horn of Africa by establishment of local health facilities, providing sustainable primary healthcare services, increasing access to basic health amongst the poor and saving lives through provision of emergency health services.

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (W.A.S.H)

Health and social development of communities are dependent on access to safe, sufficient and clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. Inadequate access to water, lack of sanitation and poor hygiene can accelerate and increase rate of disease among the population. COSEDA has a strategic, comprehensive approach to set up a sustainable water availability system, sanitation, and hygiene services and to build knowledge and appropriate behaviours to prevent and mitigate WASH-related diseases and practice good hygiene in the communities to meet the urgent needs of vulnerable populations.

Education

Education is the pillar of any nation building agenda. Countries affected by conflict have lag in education. In addition, the education provision is of low quality, mainly due to the high number of unqualified and untrained teachers, poor education infrastructure and weak capacity for service delivery. Hence, there is a huge need to support and provide quality education to the communities to steer the development. COSEDA with partners endeavours to support provision of quality education through training of teachers, improvement of education infrastructure, and provision of scholastic materials to school children and teachers.

Livelihood, Resilience and Economic Empowerment:

Countries such as South Sudan, Somalia and DRC that have experience protracted conflict and civil do experience food insecurity. Such vulnerabilities to acute and chronic food shortage have been exacerbated by floods, insecurity, drought, famine and low food production. COSEDA with collaboration and support from other partners will:

  • conduct food distribution, support food production and value addition among vulnerable communities
  • Build community resilient initiatives such as dyke building, 
  • Mobilize resources to improve livelihood
  • Contribute to Women and youth empowerment through skill building initiatives 
  • Investment in farming activities to increase local food production and support value chain related livestock, farming.

Program Support Services

COSEDA offers a wide range of program support services to assist agencies in planning, initiating, managing, executing, and closing out mission-oriented health and development programs and projects. These services include technical backstopping for donor-funded projects, project leadership and stakeholder communications, project planning and scheduling, earned value management support, performance monitoring and measurement, reporting and documentation, stakeholder briefings, and program integration.

Project Monitoring and Evaluation

COSEDA specializes in project monitoring and evaluation, providing comprehensive assessments of program impact and effectiveness. They conduct community needs assessments, baseline surveys, independent monitoring, KAP surveys, program evaluations, feasibility studies, and operational research. These activities are integrated into the design, development, and implementation of projects to ensure successful outcomes.

Health Systems Strengthening (HSS)

COSEDA has extensive expertise in strengthening health systems in Africa. They work closely with governments, NGOs, and healthcare institutions to develop and implement strategies that improve the efficiency, responsiveness, and performance accountability of healthcare systems. By addressing policy and regulatory gaps and enhancing resource management, COSEDA aims to optimize the use of available resources, enhance flexibility to meet changing health needs, and attract greater allocations of national resources.

Human Resources for Health

(HRH)

Recognizing the critical role of healthcare professionals in delivering quality care, COSEDA focuses on human resources for health. They provide support in capacity building, training, and strategic planning to ensure an adequate and competent healthcare workforce. By enhancing skills and knowledge, CSEDA contributes to the overall strengthening of health systems and the delivery of quality healthcare services.

Institutional Capacity Building

COSEDA is committed to building the capacity of individuals, communities, and non-governmental institutions. They offer strategic planning and implementation support, empowering their clients to achieve their health intervention goals. COSEDA conducts task-oriented training for trainers, community-based organizations, facilitators, NGOs, and other institutions. Using participatory approaches, such as Participatory Learning and Action (PLA), they ensure that training interventions align with the priorities and needs of the clients.

Research and Organizational Development

COSEDA understands the importance of evidence-based decision-making and organizational improvement. They conduct operational research, surveys, and studies to inform program design and development. COSEDA also provides consultancy services to support management, organizational, and business improvement efforts, delivering insightful and actionable recommendations.
